The award ceremony took place at the majestic Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid, during a gala organized by La Razón that brought together some of the most outstanding medical professionals in Spain. In this edition, the award for Specialist in Shoulder Diagnosis and Surgery was presented to Dr. Ricardo Aveledo, consolidating his position as one of the leading references in shoulder surgery in Spain.
This prestigious recognition has previously honored figures such as Dr. Manuel Leyes.
A legacy of medical super-specialization
The selection of Dr. Aveledo as this year’s award recipient highlights the growing importance of super-specialization within an increasingly technical, personalized healthcare system focused on quality of care. Shoulder surgery is one of the most complex areas of modern orthopedics and requires a combination of advanced knowledge, surgical precision, and clinical sensitivity.

Unprecedented international training
What distinguishes Dr. Aveledo within the Spanish medical landscape is his highly specialized international training. He holds a PhD in Applied Physics, allowing him an in-depth understanding of joint biomechanics, and has refined his shoulder surgery skills at centers of excellence in Australia, the United Kingdom, and other countries.
For more than two years, he practiced with a medical license at world-renowned hospitals, where he operated on highly complex cases and developed advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques. In addition, he has worked with high-performance athletes as part of his training in Sports Medicine in Australia.
He is currently the only orthopedic trauma surgeon in Spain to have obtained the official certification as a shoulder surgery specialist awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Technical precision, empathy, and functional recovery
Dr. Aveledo’s medical philosophy is based on a clear principle: excellence is not measured solely in the operating room, but also in personalized care and sustainable long-term outcomes. Each diagnosis is precise, and each surgery is approached as a minimally invasive procedure, with the least possible impact on the patient.
Thanks to this comprehensive approach, his patients not only regain mobility, but also confidence, functionality, and quality of life. “Surgery does not end in the operating room. Postoperative follow-up and recovery are just as important as the technique,” he states.
Committed to the future of medicine
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Aveledo is firmly committed to training new generations of specialists. He promotes collaborative, multidisciplinary, and constantly evolving medicine: “The key is to stay continuously up to date, without losing empathy or active listening with the patient.”
His teaching approach seeks to transmit both advanced surgical techniques and strong human values. As he summarizes:
“Medicine is not an individual effort, but a shared responsibility.”
